Still using the same client as my main SigX... i now have an.....

AVATAR :D

The only problem is that most forums wont let you link to an avatar.. at best they will take a copy of it... There must be a use for it though :)

Well, i can understand forums not just linking to a remote avatar... mostly because you could put a huge image there, and unless the forum checked the size of the image every time it went to display it... which would obviously be massively processor intensive on a big forum.

most forum systems can set what are valid types for off-site avatars.
and having off-site avatars is better than on-site avatars; on-site drags down bandwith.

All forums that I know that allow you to set an avatar from a URL will download the file and bung it in their database or whatever. If the forum just held a link, the image size would need to be checked every time...

unless of course, you can't set it as the image unless it's within the required parameters. on most forums i go to, if you change the remote file, the avatar changes in response, without changing what avatar it's pointing to in the prefs.

<img src="http://24.127.57.124/mydesktop.jpg" border="0" width="50" height="50">

woud essentially limit my diesktop image to 50 by 50 with no strain to anyone.

all anyone has to do is add width="50" height="50" and all images no matter what size would be resized to that

This is true, but some forum owners may not want huge (file size) images clogging up their forums either. If I happened to link to a 1Mb avatar, that's gonna cause quite a delay in loading the page, especially for low bandwidth visitors or people like me that saturate their connection all the time :)
