Just thought I'd check in. I haven't had much chance to work on SigX.NET lately because I've had to do my real work. <sigh>
My plug-ins are working great. In fact, you can run more than one instance of one at a time. Why would you want to do that, you ask? Well, suppose you'd like to show the weather in two different places, like where you are and where the love of your life is. Just put two copies of the plug-in dll in the plug-in directory and bob's your uncle.
My latest idea is to use the Microsoft TerraServer to dl a map of the area centered around your zipcode and use that as the image. Make it very pale, i.e. almost transparent... I gotta look at your settings page and see how easy it would be to upload the image everytime someone changed their zipcode...
I've had a guy helping me beta-test (beta-test, hell, more like alpha-test ... shit, more like "technology preview"
) and the program is pretty stable. I suppose I'd be willing to let others have a look as long as they were satisfied with the limited functionality -- weather, winamp, text, Outlook sigs...
Oh...I had an idea for a user interface for a more complex text layout. You know how if you right-click on the toolbar for Internet Explorer and choose "Customize Toolbar," how you get that box with one window on the left with things you *can* have, and another box on the right with things you *do* have, and then you have >>Add and <<Remove buttons and MoveUp and MoveDown? Well, that thing is a Win common control and is called the "Collection Editor".
I'm thinking that I could have one of those and include separators, tabs, newlines, text, as well as the various variables. It wouldn't be drag and drop, or even 2D, but if you had a preview window at the bottom I think it would serve. At least I could have a more complex layout than simply line-by-line, and it would help those folks that can't deal with editing a text file...
